GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This machine is designed to make the following materials tests, among others, tests over leaned light plates for fastening, according to Spanish Railways infrastructures administrator standard E.T. 03.360.578.3:

  • Resistance under lateral load: 85 kN during 30 s.
  • Impact strength under lateral load: 3 mm displacement, speed 15 mm/s.
  • Fatigue strength under lateral load: 100.000 cycles, square-wave. Amplitude 5 - 45 kN. Frequency: 5 Hz.

Two high stiffness column testing frame, with an upper crosshead adjustable in height by means of lateral hydraulic jaws, complemented by a hydraulic and automatic locking/unlocking system controlled from the machine computer keyboard

The lower plate of the testing frame is mounted on the metallic bedplate manufactured by means of UPN type profiles.

The double effect and double acting symmetrical chambers hydraulic servo cylinder is mounted over the lower plate.

The fatigue load cell (tensile-compression testing) for +/- 250 kN maximum capacity is mounted on the upper crosshead.

The tools, which allow the testing devices interchange ability by means of attaching iron pins, are serial mounted over the load cell.

These materials testing devices can be tensile gripping heads, compression plates, bending tools, special devices, etc.

SERVO VALVE

High response servo valve with Qn = 65 l/min. Main specifications as follows:
  • Maximum working pressure in continuous
    working: 280 Bar.
  • Temperature working range: Between -30 ºC
    and 120 ºC
  • Hysteresis: Lower than 3%
It has high and low pressure accumulators to avoid water hammer beats and so improve the dynamic answer of the system.

MAGNETOESTRICTIVE TRANSDUCER MOD. SSI

Located inside the dynamic servo-cylinder. Its main responsibility is to real time control the piston position to obtain the order parameter when the machine works with “displacement” servo control.

SERVO CYLINDER

The servo cylinder is a double effect and double
acting symmetrical chambers unit with anti-turning
system.
The servo cylinder has the following main specifications:
  • Hard Chromium and grinded finished piston
    and rods.
  • Union joints and guides for piston between
    chambers and rods, manufactured from
    special materials with low abrasion and
    scoring which minimizes hysteresis and
    friction effects.
Inside a magneto restrictive transducer, model SSI is
mounted in coaxial situation to the piston.

LOAD CELL

The fatigue tensile/compression load cell can reach up
to loads of 300% nominal load.

UNIVERSAL TESTING FRAME UMIB

This test frame is the basic component of the UMIB/W series machines. Formed by four main columns and manufactured as per the Standards:

UNE-7281, DIN-51220, 51222, 51223, 51227, 51228, ASTM-E4, BS-1610 and EN-10002-1 (1990).


ADVANTAGES OF THE TESTING FRAME
  • The frame has a single test space, allowing several uses by interchanging testing devices.
  • The four over dimensioned columns afford the machine a high degree of stiffness. The crosshead is locked tightly in place by a special plate-column friction system based on high-strength screws. The oil free system avoids the leak-tightness problems. The locking system is operated automatically by a hydraulic locking/unlocking device.
  • The crosshead height can be adjusted with lateral hydraulic jacks. This improves the working conditions because the operator can adjust the compression testing space height to suit his needs.
  • The test frame is accessible from all sides, making it possible to fit specimen feeding devices and automatic strain measuring systems.
  • The large free distance between gripping heads (0 - 1000 mm, including the piston stroke) makes it possible to use devices for performing tests at high and low temperatures, and test large specimens without the need for modifications.
CONSTRUCTION The test frame consist of:
  • A bedplate with a series of standardized holes for attaching the gripping devices and other devices for testing building components.
  • A ground double-acting actuator mounted in the lower crosshead.
  • Four chromium plated columns providing protection against corrosion and ease of maintenance.
  • A height-adjustable mobile crosshead, locked with screws at the height required for the tests. The universal load cell (tensile-compression testing) is mounted on the upper crosshead. In series, on the lower part of the load cell, is mounted the upper gripping head with a ball-and-joint socket and a locking system for compression tests.
The test frame must include gripping heads with fast handling through a lever. Optional: A pair of hydraulic gripping heads (upper and lower) with a fast specimen-fitting system could be set up with additional extra price. As a result of the special characteristics of this test frame, sufficient space should be available to allow the actuator to move up and down below the level at which the machine is anchored to ground. This space should measure: 550 mm deep, 600 mm long and 360 mm wide.

AUTOMATIC HYDRAULIC LOCKING/UNLOCKING CROSSHEAD ADJUSTEMENT SYSTEM

APPLICATIONS

This system complements the lateral hydraulic jacks which control the vertical movement of the crosshead. The screw-based locking system, manually operated with a torque wrench, is replaced by remote, push-button controlled hydraulic pistons which automatically lock and unlock the crosshead and, therefore, the upper gripping head.

ADVANTAGES

  • The system allows fast positioning of the crosshead by means of a displacement transducer (LVDT) axially placed in the piston with 300 mm. of maximum stroke. This is particularly useful when testing different sized specimens.
  • The lateral hydraulic jacks and complementary automatic locking/unlocking system can be used to tauten the specimen slightly before the test (very useful in particular for non-rigid specimens such as chains, cables, ropes, etc.).
  • The crosshead does not move unless unlocked (safety protection).

    DESCRIPTION OF TEST AREA

    Twin space test frame composed of a lower frame that houses the sleeve-piston group, 2 columns (according to the model), an upper crosshead (that incorporates an upper tensile hydraulic head), a mobile crosshead, whose height is adjustable by means of two motorised screw drives, that incorporates the lower traction hydraulic head and a transmission system for the worm gears housed inside the frame.

    The force measurement is made by means of a strain gauge load cell located in series with the load piston.

    The mobile crosshead incorporates the upper compression plate, which is interchangeable with the bending punch. The lower compression plate is located on the load piston.

    The carriages with the support rollers of the bending device - are located on the frame.

    LOAD MEASURING SYSTEM

    Universal strain gauge load cell (tension - compression), high precision and repeatability. Same capacity as the ibmu2_displacementmaximum load of the testing frame.

    The quality of the load cells used, guarantees the 1 class according with ISO 7500-1 within the measuring range (1 to 100% of the nominal capacity).

    DISPLACEMENT MEASURING SYSTEM

    By means of a wire encoder which allows a 0,001 mm displacement resolution.
